Getting Unstuck - Educators Leading Change

31

Curiosity sits at the intersection of creativity, effective human interactions, problem-solving and purposeful change. Unfortunately, the pace of life — at home, work, and school — often sidetracks our natural curiosity. So, let’s see the familiar from a different angle or something new as a possibility to consider.

    Can You Hear Me Now?
I am very grateful for the opportunity to be a guest on this podcast, and I appreciate the effort that Jeff put into preparing for the interview. This is the first podcast I've been on where the host had a meeting before the podcast to determine the best angle from which to view the guest's story so that the audience would acquire the most relevant information. Jeff did his research, asked probing questions, and allowed me to give complete uninterrupted answers. The result is a product that I believe the audience will enjoy. Thanks Jeff for your commitment to improving education.

    Exciting Work
I fully appreciated the important questions and dialogue Jeff and Kirsten prepared for our interview. They’re educators with true passion for the people and ideas that work for our best student outcomes. This is important and exciting work, and I look forward to hearing more educator’s voices they find and share for the movement, for educators must certainly be the drivers of innovation in our schools.

    Get Unstuck
Kirsten Richert & Jeff Ikler are a breath of fresh air in the education arena. Unfortunately, our education system socially incentives less-than-ideal leadership. So, what is needed is leaders who can break from the traditional paradigms and become more purpose-centered. Getting Unstuck will help you to do that.

    The Flywheel
Deb Gustafson’s application of the FLYWHEEL method to a very challenging, failing school environment, was inspirational on so many levels. Having a deliberate focus/outline/ structure to stick to and revisit again and again, clearly served as a container to helped control the “ shiny new things” of Education. Sticking with it over 18 years!!! ... gave the consistency and structure for remarkable change, Thank you Jeff and Kirsten for an excellent podcast. It was well worth the listen. I am looking forward to your book!

    Stories That Matter
This show is broken down into two kinds of episodes, and the episodes where the guest reveals a transformation story are phenomenal. In analyzing where the person was, how and why they transformed and where they are now, the hosts ask thought-provoking and clarifying questions that really bring out the guests deepest thoughts and emotions. There is a really nice combination of authentic yet challenging questions that makes each person think and dive more into their own past and present!

A Breath of Fresh Air and Common Sense
Full disclosure: I've been a guest on this podcast; although, I don't believe that detracted from the caliber of the content irrevocably. That notwithstanding, Kirsten and Jeff have taken an approach to change — and podcasting — that's as thorough as it is levelheaded. They're not writing any prescriptions. They're asking questions, listening to the responses, reflecting on them, responding to them with more questions, and generally being engaged and engaging. Adopting the philosophy that it's about the journey, not the destination, they don't seem driven at all to arrive at diagnoses. Rather, they seem bent on learning as much as they can and using everything they learn to broaden their perspectives. That makes them as admirable as they are genuine. I don't know if you're supposed to have a good time listening to their podcast. But you will. And you'll find every moment worthwhile.
