This podcast is very well told and Julia can make very good voices and sound effects. I loved this podcast because it brought back memories of my childhood. I would recommend this for people who can take a “dark” story without being fazed, because there are a few dark ones (as the title already mentioned).

Julia Norton has the gift for storytelling. Not only does she change her voices to match the characters and pace the timing of the tales well, she also has such a soothing narrator’s voice that’s good to listen too while curled up with a cup of tea or trying to relax before an afternoon nap. Maybe the only thing better than her speaking voice is her singing! So ethereal! The stories she chooses are true dark and twisty tales, with a good mix of eerie and downright horrifying folktales! Thank you Julia!!!

I listen to these beautiful, horrifying stories over and over. Something special in the blending of horror and beauty, I have always loved folktales and fairytales, and these stories come alive with your lovely voice and your unique creations. Might you consider including Baba Yaga In your repertoire?As a child, I was given a book of Russian fairytales. Baba Yaga sent shivers down my spine, So of course I read them often. I remember one story about a pot of spaghetti that ended up smothering the entire town because Baba Yaga’s assistant failed to follow directions. In the minds eye of an eight-year-old it was A bit terrifying to envision dying of spaghetti overload. Thank you, thank you, thank you for taking time out of your busy life to make this podcast for us. I’ve been waiting months hoping for the new season. I am delirious to know you are continuing PS where are you???? Please come back! You’re still my favourite podcast!!!

As someone who loves folk and fairy tales, I have read most of the tales in this podcasts , but the way Julia tells them accompanied with her singing, truly transports me into a different worlds. Absolutely love this podcast!

Julia’s voice is perfect for delivering these beauties—tales that are not necessarily faerie stories for wee ones, but are authentic tales from long ago meant to drive home a lesson or two. I listen to each magical story with delight, feeling transported through the ages, connected to something ancient, and somehow relaxed and rejuvenated at the end of it all. I grew up with Jim Henson weaving dark tales of fantasy, and this brings me back to that feeling of magic and wonder. The narrator has such a soothing voice, I listen to this to relax before bed-and hauntingly beautifully told dark tales. Please do not ever stop doing this podcast- there is an art to storytelling, and you have mastered it! We miss you! Can’t wait to hear some new content!

A rare gem of a folktale podcast, I love it. Really engaging and colorful narration, high production value, and straight to the point. If only there were more storytelling podcasts of this quality! Julia’s voice is just the cherry on top, I’d listen to her read a phonebook

Julia Norton brings every story to life in such a great manner. Her voice is so clear and articulate and her singing will charm you like a siren. I found her podcast recently and compulsively listened to most of them in one go.

This is as perfect a storytelling experience as I can imagine. Julia Norton has the speaking voice of Emma Thompson and the singing voice of Loreena McKennitt and of course the stories themselves are lesser known fairy tale gems. If you’re new to this podcast you’re in for a treat!

Loving the darker side of whimsy that unfolds in these stories. Julia Norton has a way of bring stories to life like no other. She ignites the imagination with her approach to storytelling. I catch myself leaning in as I listen, as if she is drawing me into the pages of these tales.

Loving these journeys with Julia back to these odd and little known tales. Before many of the today’s “folk tales” got sanitized, they had their basis in much darker realms, which Julia finds and shares for your enjoyment. Such pitch-perfect narration for these tales. Julia has delivered a deliciously wicked tale that is a joy to listen to. Not only does she have a great storytelling voice, she has vocally defined her characters quite cleverly, and added snippits of song, creating an unexpected presentation of an old fairy tale.

Love this idea. Can't wait to hear more folk and fairy tales that haven't been sweetened up. The pacing is nice, the sound effects added to the experience and the singing interspersed is lovely. Looking forward to more of these dark and twisty tales. I bet there's a dark and twisty ballad out there begging to be added.

Like a bite of rich velvety dark chocolate. Wonderful combination of storytelling and song with a hauntingly beautiful voice. Not your modern fluffy fairytale but a journey back in time to when life was less entitled, more fragile and cautionary tales were meant to scare kids into behaving. My 10 and 12 year olds love it as well!

A very, very polished production of cinderella that taps deep into its fireside, oral tradition roots. A wonderfully disturbing tale, that is as illogical as it is casually violent.The ugly sisters getting the slipper to fit is pure Hannibal Lecter. This is one to be savoured with a nice Chianti and some fava beans.

My kids and I loved listening to this tale. Norton's voice is smooth and silky, with just the right amount of intonation to keep us on the edge of our seats. A great way to spend time together!
