Petticoats and Poppies: History Girls at the Movies is a podcast hosted by Maggie Lovitt and Nicole Ackman. The “history girls” have backgrounds in history, having studied history at university and worked at historic sites in both the US and UK. Now, they're both involved in the film industry, Nicole as a film critic and Maggie as a member of the Screen Actors Guild. They discuss period dramas from the perspective of women who are both non-professional, accessible historians and 'film people.'

    What a great idea for a podcast- and it appeals to my interests in period literature/film adaptations/history. Enjoyed the first two episodes so far! Please note to your listeners: the Amazon Prime edition of Jane Eyre that you mentioned is sadly abridged, with important scenes and parts of scenes deleted. Complete versions can be found on YouTube. Looking forward to see what you choose to discuss next!

    Period Drama Brought to the Present Day
    This is an enjoyable podcast, not only for those who like period dramas, but of history! Maggie and Nicole are easy to listen to, intelligent with their studies, and are well researched before each episode. They not only share their opinion of the main film for each episode, but break down costuming, camera angles, locations, and actors and actresses for the main roles.
