The retired General (who has been actively political since 2006), is concerned that other retired military personnel are actively political (albeit for the opposite political party). Ok.

Hands down, the dumbest columnist at the Post. Not really sure why anyone would listen to this podcast. Hohmann is undeniably the inheritor of David Broder preening useless both-sider stupidity at the Post. Everything is a horserace, with smug chatterbots like Hohmann racing to show how verrrry verrry savvy they are, without actually weighing things like objective truth or outcomes. Want a really dumb take, powered by a whole lot of false equivalence? This is the podcast for you!

What a horrible, selfish person. Having, admittedly, sending her children to school sick, she has no place in this discussion whatsoever. Many people are compromised. I almost died as well as my unborn baby because somebody felt they were too necessary to stay home when they were sick. She said she sent her kids to school sick because she didn’t want to deal with child care. This is the selfish mindset that is lead our country down this road. Did not find the show constructive in the least.

So disappointing to see you give Larry Summers a platform. This is the man who, as president of Harvard, said that the under representation of women in science was due to lack of aptitude. In other matters I have found James’ coverage outstanding but this shows poor judgment. I assume that now you will give a voice to women in STEM who have been held back by this type of discrimination from white men in positions of power.

So glad James H is back. I had really missed The Big Idea because it was one of my daily staples. This new podcast offers the same thoughtful coverage of topics that keep me learning and thinking. Sometimes I still miss my daily dose of his former work, but this weekly offering makes up for that!

It is great to have James back podcasting. Every episode of relevant to the times and informative. I eagerly look forward to the podcast dropping every Friday morning and never miss an episode!

First bit of audio at the start of the episode just simply “supported by Blackstone.” Why would I trust the framing or substance of anything said after that?

Show has gone downhill since the end of the war in Afghanistan. Lots of important stories are being missed because the show can’t move on. I’ve started filtering new episodes and skipping the Afghanistan-related ones.

So happy to hear James Hohmann’s voice again. This new podcast is a lovely extra helping of your favorite main dish topics and I can’t wait to hear more!! The Big Idea Podcast reports during the pandemic were a critical source of information and comfort for my husband and I. We would often find each other throughout the day and say “Did you hear what James said?!?” My favorite part was when something would happen in Minnesota and James would say “where my mom is from”or “20 from where my mom lives” and then give a little blurb on how his mom is doing. It absolutely humanized some very dehumanizing news and in some unexplainable way, was very comforting. James- how is she?!?! Sending you, and your mom, our best wishes and best of luck on a successful new podcast!

I am so very glad that James Holman is back to podcasting current events. His departure from Up First sounded its death knell for me. But his style and depth are so welcome in this podcast. He starts my day again!

Brilliant

Journalism is how this country keeps working when the government doesn’t. It’s why freedom of the press is in our constitution. The work of this podcast goes into the detail unavailable in most of the daily broadcasts and is much needed. It is also very well done.

James is an exceptional journalist and his personal narrative style brings the story to life with the interviewee. Perfect format for a weekly podcast!

What a pleasure to here James voice and intelligent interviews with people in the news and others we need to know about every week again. James has the ability to keep and highlight the humanity in his reporting and opinion pieces. Welcome back!

There is no originality to be found here. You can look at the title of an episode and predict everything that will be said.

To date there have been just 2 episodes, but I enjoyed them both. The conversations with VP Harris and AZ Sec Hobbes were interesting and a great start! Looking forward to hearing more.

Perfect to start with interviewing VP Harris and focusing on the impact of the pandemic on women in the workforce and families overall.

Great to hear James again after missing him on the big idea. Way to start the new podcast off with VP Harris! Already on my auto-listen list.

As a social studies teacher and a consumer of news, I love the depth that this podcast provides to understand the nature of and further information regarding important works in America today. James is a fantastic host and helps the listener to process the material in a detailed manner.

It may not be a weekday ritual and have the same feeling of community around a really smart briefing, but I am already a devoted listener and, as a professor of political science and public policy, plan to assign to my students in my required podcast play list. I may even consider naming it “Here’s what you need to know today...”

Laser focus on the topic. Smart questions. Excellent first podcast with VP Harris; discovered this podcast via @TheBulwark. Glad I found it. Look forward to future ones, James!

Since James Hohmann left Daily 202, it’s great to have his insight and perspective back. He’s a quintessential observer of American politics, and I can’t wait to hear future episodes.

The Washington Post’s James Hohmann used to host The Big Idea, and I’m really glad he’s back with a new podcast. This looks to be a wonderful platform for him that will showcase his broad knowledge of and passion for politics, history, people, and the stories we care about and want to know more about. It will be a regular listen for me, one that I’ll check for daily even though I know I’ll only get a new one weekly!

Please go on starts with VP Harris and James is back doing the podcast with clear understanding of the topic and asking the questions we listeners want to hear. I am happy to hear from James once a week with his laser focus.

I miss hearing James’ voice every day, and glad to hear he’s pulling out greater detail from interviews on the important issues.
